The Marine Biological Technician is responsible for assisting the Cal Poly Pier Operations Manager in the daily technical operations of the pier facility. The Cal Poly Pier is an education and research facility located off-campus in Avila Beach, CA. The facility serves as the field lab for the Center for Coastal Marine Sciences (CCMS), which facilitates marine studies in multiple disciplines at Cal Poly and other institutions. The site is comprised of a 3,000 foot long steel and concrete pier, a 0.5 acre lot at the base of the pier and 4000 sq. ft. of laboratory and service space including a newly completed Flowing Seawater Facility.
The Marine Biological Technician will be responsible for: Operation and maintenance of the Flowing Seawater Facility, coastal watercraft, and other aspects of the physical plant; assisting with laboratory and research use of the pier; collection and maintenance of live marine organisms.
