The Channel Islands National Park's Kelp Forest Monitoring Program, in effect for a bit over 25 years, has an opening for one Student Conservation Association Internship during May-Sept, 2007.

They are seeking a diver "with a moderate amount of experience (minimum of 50 cold water dives and/or excellent recommendations) to help collect long-term subtidal data on the kelp forest communities around the Channel Islands."

Aside from the opportunity to partake of some of the best diving in California while contributing to a monitoring program that has provided essential fishery-independent data on abalones, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, and other marine invertebrates, this is an especially great opportunity as a (rare!) stipend will be available to the selected candidate: $640/month, up to $600/month for housing, and some medical benefits.

Contact David Kushner at (805) 643-0260 or via email for more information.
